Please report usage to CCLI. Thank you! J.B. Phillips once wrote a book called, "Your God is Too Small." A weak view of the Savior only inspires even weaker worship. This song was written to remind ourselves that the real Jesus is worthy of our deepest fear, awe, love, and obedience.
Part of the lyrical inspiration came from one of our favorite Christmas hymns, "O Holy Night," especially the line "Fall on your knees, O hear the angels' voices." We wanted to take that image one step further and picture more than just mere mortals like us on our knees. The chorus is meant to evoke a vision of angels beyond number, more glorious and powerful than we can imagine, falling before Christ the Lord. (If you're curious, that image comes straight from Revelation 7:11-12).
We've found these two passages--Colossians 1:15-20 and Revelation 1:12-18--to be especially strong medicine to cure a view of Jesus that is anything less than full of wonder.
Come let us behold Him...O come let us adore Him. |
